There
is Only One God
“Look to Me, and be saved, All you
ends of the earth! For I am
God, and there is no other.”
Isaiah
45:22
You have no doubt heard
this saying many times, (born again). Jesus spoke this truth, in John 3:1-7
“There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader
who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus.
“Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your
miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you. “Jesus replied, “I tell you
the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What
do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his
mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus
replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born
of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy
Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You
must be born again.”
This sounds like some kind of old time religion, but is actually
meant for all time. There are two elements that Jesus spoke about in the above
scripture; “born of water” and “born of the Spirit”. When the Bible speaks of being born of
‘water’ it means that when we were birthed, we have all been born of water. Born
of ‘water’ is speaking of the natural birth that happened when we all came into
this world. That’s pretty simple to
understand. Jesus said this so we could see the difference in what it means to
be “born again”.
To understand the “Spirit” we must go back to who God is.
God is our creator who created the world and the universe around us. The Bible tells us that there are three parts
to God; God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. Our human minds cannot really understand how
this can be. They work separately, but all three are One. Some day we will
understand, but the Bible tells us that this is true, so in faith believing, as
Christians, we must accept this.
Using natural terms, I will try to explain it as simply as
possible. “A man can be a father, a son
and a husband”, but is still a man.
Another way to describe it is an egg is made up of three parts; the
shell, the yolk and the white, three separate things, but together it’s an egg.
However, don’t trouble yourself because we know God is the creator and so much
more and Jesus the Christ is our Savior and the Holy Spirit is our Comforter
and leads us in all ways.
Now going on to other gods.
Different religions have their own gods, but they are man-made statues
with no beginnings. You can worship
these statues and cry out to them over and over again, but you will never get
an answer, because they can’t respond. You
can lay all kinds of food in front of them but they will never take it. It’s a little like the tale of Santa Claus where
kids leave him cookies and milk. It’s
gone in the morning because Mom or Dad got up in the night and ate it. Santa began as a story in other countries and
eventually the story caught on in America.
He is a fable or a fairy tale and we know it’s not true.
There have always been other gods that people made statues
of and called them ‘gods’. We know when
other gods were created and then disappeared like the Greek gods. God the Father is known from the creation of
the world. We know where His Son, Jesus
died and was placed in a tomb. If you do not believe that God is the only God
and is eternal, you are not a Christian….
So, you have
been born by a natural birth and now you must be born of the Spirit. How do you do that? You must accept Jesus as
your Savior. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” Romans 8:14 If you call on the name of the
Lord (Father, Son or Spirit) he will give you Salvation for eternity. When you do that you become a child of God
which means, you are born again. Your
life will gradually change to what God wants you to be, if you follow him.
I could probably say much more, but I don’t want to complicate what I
have already written. I pray that you
may understand and accept that God’s work in you is because He loves you.
“And now abide faith,
hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1
Corinthians 13:13
This is the third part of this series and next week will be the 4th and last part entitled "WHY?"
Its really important to have read the first 3 parts of the study in order to understand part 4 coming next week.
