When
God is Teaching You Something and You Won’t Listen
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you,
saying, "This is the way,
walk in it," whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to
the left.” (Isaiah 30:21)
We all have learned a lot of lessons in our lifetime. Do we always listen? God talks to us all the time even if you
think he doesn’t. Most of the time it is
the ‘still small voice’ of God that speaks to us. All of us at one time or another have heard it.
It may say, “Don’t do what you’re planning to do” or, “It’s a sin to do this,
or that.” Deep inside an alarm goes off warning you that you are doing wrong.
Isn’t there times when you are talking to someone
about a thing that is not to be passed on and inside this voice is telling you
to stop what you are saying? You may be
driving and going too fast and a voice tells you to slow down and when you
don’t you may hear a siren coming up behind you.
Genesis 6:6 tells the story of a man called Noah. He listened to God and basically the world
was saved by Noah being obedient. You
know the story; Adam and Eve had the opportunity to live in a perfect world,
but they failed to listen to God and were cast out of the Garden of Eden and
the whole world became sinful except for Noah and his family. If he hadn’t listened to God, none of us
would be here today.
Times have not changed on God trying to teach us a
lesson. Numbers 20:7-11, “Then
the LORD spoke to Moses,
saying, "Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the
congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will
yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give
drink to the congregation and their animals." So Moses took the rod from
before the LORD as He commanded
him. So Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he
said to them, "Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of
this rock?" Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice
with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their
animals drank.” God told Moses
to speak to the rock and Moses, in
his heart said to himself, “I’ll do it my way.”
He did, with terrible consequences; after all those years of leading the
people to the Promised Land was not allowed to enter it himself.
As time went on, the world continued to change and
still does so. There are Godly people
and those don’t even know who God is.
Some know but choose to ignore him and those who don’t even believe he
exists. There are others who make up
their own God. The deal is, every one of us will die someday and then what?
Everyone has a spirit, but if it isn’t God’s spirit, they will go to a place
called ‘Hell’ for eternity. You may not
believe that, but it doesn’t matter because it’s going to happen.
There is only two choices for eternal life; Heaven
with the Lord, or Hell with Satan. God
doesn’t make the choice of where you are going – you do! When you are dead, you
can’t make any choices. What does this
have to do with listening to God? Those of us who live in America have
everything to show you how God wants us to live. There are probably more Bibles in the U.S.
than in any part of the world. Every
television, every day has people sharing the Bible and its truth. There are thousands of libraries in cities
and villages and towns where you could read the Bible and Christian books. In other words, you have no excuse for not
knowing the Word of God.
Many times God speaks to you from the Bible and
expects you to listen because he loves you. Here is what he wants you to know
in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the thoughts that I
think toward you, says the LORD,
thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Just
think about it!
